Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Eureka 437AZ Optima Lightweight Upright VacuumCustomer Review: Grest Vac! Summary: 4 StarsI like this vac. It is powerful and when I use it instead of just leaving the regular vacuum lines you can see the lines of each brush row. It really moves the carpet and not just rolling over it. I admit I cheaped out and brought an Eureka for $24 and almost didn't buy this one because the other one was so bad, but I got what I paid for. I love the little brush to clean my furniture. It works great for my apartment. I would prefer a the bottom to be a little wider.
Customer Review: Fabulous for the money! Summary: 4 StarsAfter reading the reviews I was skeptical. Its amazing to me how many people DONT read the manual before jumping to conclusions. =) This is one powerful little vacuum! It works well on my hardwoods and my carpeted areas. You can either turn the spinning brush on or off (which I love). Mine came with the pet paw and that thing works amazingly well on steps and on furniture! Its very lightweight and compact and will fit just about anywhere! But, it can easily do the work of a larger vacuum without the bulkiness. i only think of two cons (and they aren't that bad)...1. The lid that fits onto the debris container is hard to get back on just right. It fits VERY tight so, some woman might find it difficult to work with. 2. the cord is just not long enough. be prepared to switch outlets twice in a large room! I have a large living room so I can't quite reach the other side of the room without moving plugs but, its something I can deal with for sure!
Customer Review: small but mighty Summary: 5 StarsI decided to buy this vacuum partly because of its winning the Good Housekeeping seal of approval and its low price. It really picks up the dirt, lifts the carpet and makes it softer, and is way quieter than other vacuums I've owned. Some purchasers complained because it is not as wide as bigger models, but I found it easier to get in between tighter spots without having to move anything. I let two sisters-in-law try it out; they loved it and each bought one. Wish I could get a commission for the sales! I like the adjustable handle and relatively light weight. Two minor complaints: the cord is rather short and there is no light. The remedy is to use an extension cord and don't clean in the dark! But I gave it 5 stars because of the good job it does.
Customer Review: Great vacuum - great price - messy clean-up Summary: 4 StarsI really like this vacuum - it has incredible suction and does a fabulous job on a den carpet that is always accumulating our dear dog's hair. It's also very light and easy to move around. I'm glad I selected it and bought it - did quite a bit of research beforehand. The only downer is an inevitable one, I guess: cleaning the filter afterwards is a bit messy and time-consuming. But it's either that or buy a bag model and have to shell out for all those bags! NOTE that you MUST clean the filter each time and also check the bottom roller for threads; otherwise, the unit will be too clogged to work correctly.
Customer Review: Great for the price Summary: 4 StarsFor $80, I'm pretty happy. I really needed a vacuum (2 kids, a cat and mostly hardwood floors) and I am on a super-tight budget, so this fit the bill nicely. I read a lot of reviews of other machines under $100, but this one had by far the best combination of features and performance. If you need a small and inexpensive vacuum, this one won't let you down.
Pros:
- so easy to assemble
- machine definitely cleans well on hard and carpeted surfaces
- light, easy to maneuver, handle height adjusts easily and with a wider range than I had anticipated
- power paw works great! Took all the cat hair off the velvet-covered futon couch which is like a giant lint roller
- other attachments also work well. Dusting brush is great for the stereo components, computer, etc.
- easy to switch between hose/attachment suction and floor suction.
- I found the dust cup easy to clean, and mine is not too hard to open, as some reviewers have found.
- I like the bagless feature: when I accidentally suck up a vital piece of my son's lego, I can see it right away and get it out easily.
- quietest vacumm I've owned.
- small point: it is blissfully easy to unlock from a standing position. I used to own the Eureka Boss, and I had to go put shoes on each time I vacuumed because the foot lever lock release was so stiff.
Cons:
- cleaning the HEPA filter is a bit of a drag. I used a toothpick and ran it down each individual fold. On the plus side, an astonishing amount of dust was trapped therein, and went into the trash instead of back into the air in my apartment. I don't mind cleaning it thoroughly a few times a month because I have proof my place is that much cleaner. I may try the pantyhose trick that one owner illustrated in the photos section.
- the unit feels a little flimsy: it creaks and rattles a little. But that's the downside of an inexpensive, lightweight vacuum. You can't have lightweight and heavy-duty in the same package.
- the exhaust does vent at the front. I wonder why Eureka didn't at least angle the vents upward? I hope they're reading this. Anyway, it's pretty easy to angle the airflow upward as you push the unit forward. Only in tight corners is it really a problem, and then you can easily switch to the hose and finish the corner that way.
The short cord and small capacity of the dust cup don't bother me because my apartment is about 500 SF, but I guess those could be drawbacks in a larger living space.
