This vacuum is fine, but the switch that you step on to lower the handle from the upright position broke almost immediately. I had to jury-rig it, which is enough of a drag to make me wish I hadn't bought this, even though it was deeply discounted at the time.Customer Review: Great Vac

This is actually the second vacuum of this model which I have purchased. I bought one for myself a year ago, and it has worked really great - no belts breaking or anything like that. When my parents needed a new vacuum, I went ahead and bought one for them.
Everything works really well on this model, especially all the attachments. The 'bare floors' function works really well too - which is great because I really hate sweeping.
The belt seems fine under normal operation. The only time I thought I might have damaged it was when I accidentally vacuumed up a shoelace, which promptly wrapped around the bristles and stopped the brushes. I quickly turned off the vacuum, but not before a little smoky smell was generated. After untangling the shoelace I turned it back on and everything has been fine.
Overall a really good vacuum, especially for the money.

We've been using ours for several months, on a mix of carpet, wood floors, tile, and rugs. It consistenly works well on carpet. Other types of floors have mixed (mostly poor) results, even when trying multiple settings. Do not let this device near lightweight rugs when it is running. It will shred the rubber backing off of any that it catches.
We found this to be a heavy hauler too. It sits in the corner of the closet in favor of others that do not illicit a grab for the bottle of tylenol after vacuuming the house. Our much lighter uprights clean almost as well for much less back pain.
Our most significant disappointment is that the brush has slowly developed a lound snarl during use (without obstruction or damage), and the foot lever release only releases with the application of a karate kick with the heel. Product quality is therefore questionable for us.
Compared to the three other uprights that we own and to our central vac system, this is the loudest, heaviest and most effective carpet cleaner we own.
