Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Eureka 4870DT Upright VacuumCustomer Review: Great for People with Pets Summary: 4 StarsIt has great suction. Works really well, especially for anyone who has to deal with pet hair, fur, dander and just overall lint, dust, crumbs in general. Carpet feels so soft after use! Even the attachments suction well.
Only caveats: Heavy (so if you live on multiple stories, be prepared for a workout); it worked well for six months, but after the belt broke the first time, it seems more prone to breaking down. it still does a great job
Customer Review: Loud, heavy and lousy on hardwood floors Summary: 1 StarsIt is disappointing that in this day and age a vacuum must be so loud that I have to use headphones in order to comfortably use this.
I would NOT recommend buying this as it is:
1.Way too loud
2. too heavy to carry up stairs without risking a fall.
3. If you have any hardwood floors, forget about it picking up much of anything-even on the brush-down setting. While we tend to watch where the vacuum is going, it's busy spitting 80% of everything out the back! That really makes me crazy.
Enough said--look for a different brand that will do the job, and do it without all the noise.
Customer Review: Just ok Summary: 3 StarsThis vac is average or a little above. It is very hard to press the little pedal that releases the handle(you actually need shoes on to press it). It is quieter than any other we have ever used and suction is below average when using tools.
Customer Review: Best Vacuum Ever. Summary: 5 StarsI have hardwood floors and a few large area rugs.....and cats. I have two rugs whose main colors are black and white. My last vacuum left a layer of cat hair on the rugs that made them look dirty even after vacuuming. The first day I used this vacuum I was instantly hooked. My rugs went back to black and looked clean and new again. I didn't think they'd ever look that nice again.
The vacuum is heavy, but it's worth it. It's suction power is still VERY powerful even after 6 months of daily use. I got this vacuum around Christmas time after doing all my research and reading a ton of reviews and weighing the pros and cons.
I waited 6 months before writing the review just to see if anything came up. Six months into it and I still love it.
There are two issues that you should know about though: the lever that makes it recline is tough to depress. You really have to give it some weight to get it to release. The other thing is that the lever that switches it from carpet to hardwood floors is also very difficult to depress. I actually had to email their customer service to figure that out because I thought it was faulty. Turns out you just have to be rough with it and MAKE it click. After the first few tough clicks it works fine.
Those are the only two drawbacks, and they're not even really drawbacks-more of FYIs.
It has really helped me keep the place clean. I love it. I would buy it again and again if I had to.
You will not be sorry you bought this vacuum, ESPECIALLY if you have pets!
Customer Review: Consumer Reports rates it as a Best Buy! Summary: 5 StarsSo glad I read Consumer Reports reviews and other Amazon customer reviews before I purchased another vacuum. It came with an extra six bags and one extra belt. One reviewer said she had never seen such a flimsy vacuum belt which is true, but it seems to do the job! A vacuum repairman once told me that vacuum belts should be changed every 3 to 6 months instead of waiting until they break.
I love this vacuum because it has such power, with the necessary attachments, and it is very quiet compared to other vacuums I have owned with much less power.
The Eureka 3870DT is a great buy. The bags are easy to change and the instructions are easy to understand...so save those instructions!
One warning to those with any physical limitations or lots of stairs! This is a very heavy vacuum! Another style of vacuum would perhaps be a better choice.
Go for it if you want a quiet and powerful vacuum that performs well.
